Last updated: 11/01/21
Despite some Initial confusion, the Cabinet has officially confirmed that Electrical/ Trade workers- which includes (PAT) Portable Appliance Testing and (EICR) Electrical Safety checks, which includes plumbing works can continue to take place during the Covid- 19 pandemic in accordance with the Public Health England- Safety Guidance.
Details can can be found here:

Overall the document is comprehensive in scope and makes sensible proposals- mostly concerned around careful planning, extra cleaning and implementing social distancing measures where reasonably practicable.
Due to our prompt response in implementing protective procedures in lines with guidance (and good fortune), we are pleased that none of our members of staff have so far contracted Covid 19 or currently experiencing or displaying symptoms.
We are currently operating as usual although taking precautions such as Nitrile gloves, n95 or surgical masks and keeping close contact to other staff members and clients to the absolute minimum. We have a duty of care to ensure our engineers understand the potential risks and are properly versed in the correct application, handling and disposal of used masks and gloves or other applicable Personal Protective Equipment. We also understand how important it is that we can work safely in support of our clients and customers’ health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic and not contribute to the spread of the virus doing PAT - Portable Appliance Testing.
The government is clear that workers should not be forced into an unsafe workplace and the health and safety of workers and customers, and public health, should not be put at risk and observe preventive measures such as the correct use of PPE and social distancing.

WHAT IS PAT TESTING?
(PAT) Portable appliance testing is a safety precaution that ensures the electrical appliances used by places of employment, service or hire will not cause damage or injury to employees, customers or renters. Electricity at Work Regulations imply that is the responsibility of businesses and employers to ensure the equipment is Safe to use. You are expected to keep a regular log of maintenance that includes inspection and testing of all electrical appliances along with a schedule of Results, hence "In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment" (PAT Testing) was born- a universal industry standard method and practice designed to ensure you are complying with the Law.
WHY DO I NEED PAT TESTING?
Trusting PAT Testing Hertfordshire with your electrical safety needs also protects you against accidents that may unfortunately occur in your workplace or property, and if your electrics and appliances haven’t been PAT Tested, insurers could reject your claim outright and you could be found legally liable or even found criminally negligent. Health and Safety in the work place is everybody's responsibility including the safe use of electrical equipment- (eg. Employees, Contractors, Managers, Maintenance Supervisors and Landlords) are each regarded by the Electricity at Work Regulations as "duty holders". This means that they should operate a routine safety testing programme for all equipment within their control and at a time based on competent risk assessment.
HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY PAT TESTING RESULTS?
